Fall weddings: how to look great on the big day

Fall Weddings - How to Look Great on the Big Day

July 21, 2018

A bride’s wedding is her time to shine! With a little planning, cosmetic services can provide an opportunity to look and feel your very best. You’ll be ready for whatever the day brings, from walking down the aisle to posing for professional pics.

Board-certified Dermatology specialist Dr. Lana Hawayek, who cares for her patients at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic's The Woodlands Clinic, is fellowship-trained in cosmetic procedures and helps brides achieve clear, glowing skin for their big day. She advises brides to plan their cosmetic procedures several months in advance since it takes some treatments weeks to achieve their full effect.

Chemical Peels

Customized chemical peels can help with acne, acne scars, minimizing pores, controlling oil, and exfoliation. Peels are usually done every two to three weeks, but Dr. Hawayek says they can be done weekly if you’re pressed for time. She advises getting your last chemical peel at least two weeks prior to your wedding.

Botox Injections

Dr. Hawayek also recommends Botox® injections to smooth out dynamic wrinkles before the big day, but since it takes two weeks to achieve the full effect, she recommends treatment at least three weeks before the wedding to allow for any necessary touch-ups.

Dermal Fillers

Dr. Hawayek uses injectable dermal fillers (like Juvederm®) to fill any deep or superficial lines on the face and to accomplish a softer, more youthful look. She recommends getting fillers at least six weeks before the wedding to allow time for any potential bruising to heal and for a more natural result.

Sunscreen

Dr. Hawayek encourages what she calls “religious use” of a sunscreen appropriate for your skin so there’s no risk of sunburn, uneven skin tone, or peeling being visible at your wedding.

She adds that patients using Retin A or other retinoid medications not do facial waxing before the wedding.

“Be especially conscientious,” concludes Dr. Hawayek. “You want everything to be perfect for those cherished photographs.”
