City of Houston's Employee Tetanus Vaccination Initiative
Houston (September 2, 2017) – The City of Houston is implementing a city-wide initiative to serve all city employees with immunization services at no cost. The City, in partnership with KelseyCare powered by Cigna, will provide free tetanus vaccinations at twenty-three (23) Houston Fire Department stations on Sunday, September 3rd, and Monday, September 4th to all municipal and classified employees who have come in contact with flood waters or sewage during Hurricane Harvey. No appointments are needed to receive a tetanus vaccination; however, note posted operational dates/hours in provided schedule.
City employees are recommended to get a tetanus vaccination:
- If it has been five (5) or more years since employee’s last tetanus vaccine, and
- If employee have been exposed to floodwater or sewage. Impacted employees who cannot recall if a tetanus vaccine has been received in the past five (5) years, the tetanus vaccination is recommended.
Four (4) Kelsey-Seybold Clinic locations, including Tanglewood, Fort Bend, Clear Lake, and Spring will be open on Monday, September 4th to serve all City of Houston employees at no cost with immunization request; although supplies are limited. On Tuesday, September 5th, nineteen (19) Kelsey Seybold Clinics will continue providing immunizations to all City of Houston employees at the respective Kelsey Seybold Clinic locations.
