Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Announces New Year-Long Video Blog Featuring Four Inspiring Breast Cancer Patients

Introducing – Healing Happens Here: Our Story. Our Cancer Journey.

Houston (October 2, 2014) – According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women, with one-in-eight women in the United States developing invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. For many women dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, the uncertainty of how this disease will impact their life can weigh heavily on their minds. Support from someone who is dealing with a similar diagnosis can be helpful, but finding time to seek out and attend support group networks can be difficult.

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic has partnered with four patients who are breast cancer survivors in different stages of treatment and who have agreed to share their journey for a year at Healing Happens Here: Our Story. Our Cancer Journey.  The discussion will help bridge the gap for patients by offering insights about the ups and downs of living with the disease through a video blog.

"There are many scary moments that a woman living with breast cancer must deal with and I have found that women who have strong support systems are better able to overcome the obstacles that breast cancer throws their way," said T.J. Patel, M.D., chief of Oncology at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. "This video blog is another way for women with breast cancer to connect with one another and to learn from each other's experiences. We are so grateful to our four video bloggers for sharing their journey with other patients."

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic has one of the largest and most active breast cancer support groups in Houston, meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Women who are newly diagnosed with the disease are encouraged to engage in the support group, if they are able. For women who are looking for additional support – or those who are unable to attend the monthly breast cancer support group meetings – these video blogs will answer questions, offer support and encouragement and provide practical tips on living with breast cancer. Women who have specific questions about their medical condition should seek the advice of their doctor.

The four breast cancer survivors featured in the video blogs are in various stages of beating their diagnosis – some are newly diagnosed or undergoing treatment while others are in remission. The viewpoints expressed in the videos belong to them and  mainly highlight the social and emotional impact breast cancer has had on their lives.
