Dr. Puttappa earned her medical degree from Bangalore Medical School in Karnataka, India. She completed her internship and residency at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. She completed a fellowship in Cardiology at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center, New York, and another fellowship in Cardiac MR and CT (Observation) at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.​
