Dr. Debra Gummelt is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with added certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1989 from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 1995 and completed the Family Practice Residency Program at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Conroe, Texas, in 1998. Prior to joining Kelsey-Seybold in September 2021, Dr. Gummelt served as a chief medical officer at Harbor Hospice in Houston, Texas. She’s a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Gummelt enjoys vegetable gardening, reading, book club discussions, and walking.

The best advice Dr. Gummelt has received is “Make a decision and go for it!”

Dr. Gummelt is a proud, lifelong Texan. The most beautiful place she has visited is Zakopane, Poland, with its Tatras Mountains.

Not everyone knows this about Dr. Gummelt, but she’s a snake conservationist. “Snakes are frequently misunderstood and under-appreciated,” she says.

Her guilty pleasure is Dove dark chocolate with almonds.

As a child, she wanted to become a teacher because of the positive impact so many of them had on her life. “With being a physician, I have a similar opportunity to educate and help others, and hopefully make a meaningful difference.
